If you don’t think Life has a sense of humour I think you need to reassess that position. A few days ago I was talking with my Mother about a new adventure that I was contemplating under taking. The adventure in question would require a financial outlay and I mused to my Mother; “I’d rather spend the $2,000 on getting instantaneous hot water.”
You see ever since we moved into this house I have battled with our bathrooms. Aside from the fact that they’re stuck in the 1980′s and in desperate need of a renovation the hot water comes from the original hot water system that was installed with the house when it was built. I will freely admit that I’m a bit of a diva when it comes to my bath time routine; I don’t require a lot of pampering but I do require the ability to be able to have a hot long shower when I need to recharge and have some thinking time.
Many a night I’ve been in the shower when the hot water has run empty. In fact only the morning of that fateful conversation I’d been in the shower and had to cut it short when the hot water ran out. (Nothing like a 7 degree morning and a cold shower to put you in the right mood to tackle the day!)
So the hot water system was fresh in my mind and right at the top of my list of dream items, but I wasn’t really serious about replacing it now I was just using it as an example of why I might be more cautious with our funds.
I finished the conversation with my Mother and was on my way to deciding it was time to roll the dice and gamble on my idea. I spent some time that night talking with HUBBY about it all and went to bed dreaming of the possibilities.
When I awoke the next morning I knew the direction I was going to take; I was going to embark on that adventure. HUBBY and the Little Man were already going about their morning routine and we had a full day of catching up with friends and appointments to get to so I headed for the shower.
There was no hot water. None. It was just ice cold water.
I called to HUBBY and he confirmed it. No hot water.
It was at this point that I just had to laugh. Seriously, life is just so funny sometimes you’ve just got to laugh.
The hot water system had just given up the ghost. It meant that we had to choose either to try and fix the 30 year old hot water system or replace it. We had always planned to replace it, just not while I wasn’t working and not right before Christmas – but you just have to play the cards you’re dealt.
So now we have a flash new instantaneous hot water system. It matches our new gas cook top, new oven, new dishwasher and new microwave.
Oh and did I mention we’re in the process of having a new garage roller door fitted to the house? We’d only just ordered (and paid for) the roller door 4 days before the hot water system crossed to the other side… /facepalm
Slowly I’m getting the renovated house I dreamed of on that faithful day in November… it’s just happening one item at a time and nowhere near in the order or manner I thought it would happen.
Life, you’re a funny lady!
