Well the day has finally come when I’ve finished a project I started!  I finished my rainbow granny stripe blanket and I love it.

The evolution of the Granny

You can find the pattern here at Attic 24.  The details of the yarn I used can be found here.  (Only one problem Spotlight tell me that most of these colours are no longer in production.)

I did some quick maths to work out how many hours went into the production of the blanket and I think it’s taken over 118 hours of work.  That’s about 4.2 days of non-stop crocheting.  I started it on 24 February 2011 and finished it on 17 August 2011.

I’ve spent so many hours working on it and daydreaming about so many variables.  There’s a missed stitched where a friend told me some big news, there’s a mixed change of colours where I was too caught up in a movie to notice and there’s enough dog hair crocheted in there to make another dog.

I’m really surprised at how warm it is.  I’m looking forward to spending many hours snuggling under it with HUBBY.

      Hi Kat :)

Thanks for stopping by! I am totally smitten with it. If the weather here in Canberra ever improves I’m going to try and get some shots of it done & with a perspective of just how massive it is.

Hope you had a great day!

Thanks! I’m glad it’s done too, but now I’m kind of missing something to work on. Guess it’s on to the next big project. What are you working on? (I’m looking for inspiration!)

It looks lovely, and very special that you have memories crocheted in there too. Happy snuggling.

Wow I love it and the colours!! I love the photo collage of the process… a lot of work! I love calculating how long things take too… 4.2 days that’s a lot of crocheting! Such a great effort! :)

      Thanks! :)

I know, all I keep thinking is that if I actually crocheted non-stop for 4.2 days I’d have such a cramp in my hand! hee hee hee

Wow, it’s a shame they’re not making those colours any more, because they’re gorgeous! What a lovely piece of crocheting, and I love how you can see the story of its making in there. Handmade pieces are always special, but they’re even better when you can remember how and when they were made. Lovely!

      Thanks :)

There’s another company that they’re getting similar colours through, but I’m yet to see an orange that is as bright as the one I originally purchased. (Which was a bit of an issue when I ran out of it and had to swap. So there’s two oranges in the blanket… )

I can remember now, but in 30 years I’ll be struggling ;)

Fantastic Ange! I love it so much. I think rainbow patterns are my favourite – I made a rainbow ripple rug for my nephew a few years ago. So bright and happy. You can’t help but smile!

(Just showed everyone at work your rug – they LOVE it too!)

*blush* Thanks. I am such a sucker for a rainbow. I don’t know what it is about a spectrum of colour that makes me so happy, but I’m not going to question it; just go with it.

You can get my site at work? Damn, you’re employer is lax with the internet access. ;)
