Michelle contacted me at the end of last year to see if I could l help get the word out about a truly senseless act that had been committed against the Group and I said I’d only be too happy to help. I asked Michelle if she could put together a little bit of information about the group, what had happened and what they need, here’s what she put together:
Now I’m working 4 days I’m no longer attend, but it has been a wonderful experience for me. Meeting other women outside my circle of friends. Having support for tough times and meeting some of the strongest women in the world. Many have challenges in their lives that I know I would crumple just thinking about.
Brindabella Women’s Group is a community support group for women with young children, where we can relax, be with other women and have a cup of tea. There is Professional Childcare available if you wish to use it, Amber would more often than not stay with me and play with other kids in the same room or join in if we were doing craft that she was interested in. We also would have ‘speakers’ come and talk to us. In my 12 months I enjoyed talk from quite a few people including PANDSI and Women’s Health as well as craft, silver jewellery making and photography.
However, late last year our craft supplies were stolen from a locked shed at the Centre we meet at. We had stored in there items such as:
· Paper stamps
· Die cutters
· Scrapbooking/Paper supplies
· Beading supplies, including wires, cutters, pliers’, beads and fastenings
· Big box of Buttons for button craft
· Texta’s and markers for scrapbooking
· Glues, tape, hot glue guns and supplies
· Felt and cotton, needles etc
When we first discovered this, we were horrified. The kids toys were left, other items didn’t look like they had been touched (shared space) and all I could imagine was that there was a group of grannies somewhere in ninja outfits breaking into people’s craft sheds. However, after a search around the local area, there was no sign of our things. It was all very strange. We were uninsured. Insurance would have cost approx $1,200 a year and that was money we couldn’t find, or get grants for.
The group charges NOTHING to attend, NOTHING for craft supplies and NOTHING for the day care, it is funded by the ACT government, but all of the supplies we had were collected from donations over many years.
So we are hoping that people can maybe have a look through their craft cupboards and find anything they no longer are using or have bulk amounts of that they are never going to use and help us to build our supplies again.
I don’t know about you, but this is something I can definitely help with. I know that there are items in our shed that (once I unpack them) I will be more than happy to donate. (Can anyone say craft addict?)
Can you help?
